It is really a great feeling to get tens and more comments when you make a post on your blog. Not getting comments on your blog posts can be really depressing and it only goes to show you are not doing some things right. Many bloggers have been in this situation before, I have been there and I must say I’m not totally out of it. However, I have some ideas that I have been implementing and I am already seeing improvements and with time I know it will get better.
If you ever find yourself in this kind of situation, you need not fret over it anymore because with the following tips I am going to share, you can start getting comments to your every post.
I would not like to bore you with stories, so let’s go straight to the points:
Be a good writer
I didn’t say a great writer. All you need is just to be a good writer. You don’t need to be a BBC columnist to be a great blogger. Your good command of English or the language you write in matters a lot. If you have a well articulated post, some people would be compelled to leave a comment that has nothing to do with the content but just to credit your writing skills.
Have you ever gotten a comment like this? “Wow, you are such a great writer…felt like I was speaking one on one with you.” That’s what I’m talking about.
Writing problems like spelling and grammatical errors can be minimized by using MS Word to write your posts but it won’t correct everything for you.
Write great posts
We all have heard this at one point or another that writing a great post is one of the few things you need to learn first as a blogger. Writing a great post not only gets attention of readers but they are also compelled to make comments and share it on social networks with their friend. You can even get some blog commentators from those they shared it with.
By writing a great post, I mean having very attractive and catchy topics as well as really informative body of post.
Be a little bit controversial
You need to be controversial in some of your blog posts to provoke comments. Expect a lot negative comments here, so you should be prepared to handle them. Write opinion posts about a product or service that people are crazy about and make a really controversial statement.
For example, while comparing Facebook and Twitter in a post, you can make a statement like: Twitter is meant for the highly intelligent unlike Facebook because you are forced to compress your whole idea into 140 characters. The same cannot be said of Facebook which allows people to post a whole texbook; some without meaning at the end…Facebook promotes mediocrity. With this kind of statement, you are sure to get many comments on the post, many of them negative because there are many lovers of Facebook. Addicted users.
Note that you should not overdo this, it will make people to see you as a hater.
Use commentluv plugin
If you intend to get comments on your blog as soon as you make a post, use Commentluv plugin. This plugin motivates mostly bloggers to make comments on blogs that have it enabled. Commentluv plugin searches for the links of the last ten posts made on the website inputed in the URL field of the comment box by the commentators. The commentator can now choose one of the links and this is added to the end of the comment. Many bloggers want to create links to their posts on other people’s blogs. This plugin makes it possible and easy, so it encourages bloggers to post comments on your blog.
Use top commentators plugin
Like the Commentluv plugin this plugin encourages bloggers to make comments on your blog because this features them in a sidebar widget with a link to their profile when they are amongst the top commentators. This creates awarenes for them as well as their own blogs if they have the link to their blogs on their profiles which they always do.
Encourage your readers to make comments
This seems simple but it works. By simply asking your readers to drop their comments, you can get a couple of comments on your posts too.
Always reply to comments
If you indulge in the act of not replying to your readers’ comments, you are your blog’s greatest enemy. They don’t have to ask a question before you reply them. Just saying “thank you for your comment” or “thanks for providing us with that information” is enough to get them to comment next time.
Ask leading questions that are begging for answers on your blog and you will see comments dropping in. Don’t ask questions like you don’t know what you are doing as this will work against your blog. Ask for opinions, questions like “owing to the high costs of all Microsoft products, we can expect the increase in prices of Blackberry phones when they finally take over RIM and they might lose many customers. Would you still buy a Blackberry phone with a price increase of up to 50%?” That’s just an example and I’m not implying that Microsoft is planning to take over RIM.
Start commenting yourself
Some would say this is a desperate move but I don’t see it as that because human beings often behave like sheeps; they follow the path others go. Making the first comment on your post can encourage other readers to make comments. A common example is that of displaying your Feedburner subscribers counter, it encourages people to want to subcribe because they see that they won’t be the first to do it. People have been doing it.
Handle negative comments wisely
This is very important not only to the aspect of commenting but also to the overall success of your blog. You should expect negative comments if you employ any of the methods above to get comments, especially when trying to be controversial. In fact you will get negative comments even if you are not controversial. Take your time and try to find the best answer to the negative question, don’t get angry and reply rudely. Reply politely and if you can’t find a solution to their problem, tell them and ask other readers who can to respond.
These are just few of the many ways that you can follow to get more comments on your blog. Of course, there are more. If you have any other tips on this, share it in your comments. It’s a delight to see 50 comments, 150 comments after your posts. Make use of the tips above and start seeing changes. I hope to get over a hundred comments on this too.
