REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD DROP APPLE’S IPHONE FOR THE BLACKBERRY

You should consider the following reasons why it is way better to buy a Blackberry smartphone compared to an Apple iphone.
To be realistic with you, none of these smartphones is categorically better than the other!

We have to realize that BlackBerry was initially set to be a business device but now trying desperately to appeal to consumers. If my memory serves me right, I can remember the Glo Blackberry adverts when it was just introduced to Nigerian market. All the adverts pointed out the that they were meant to be business smartphones. The iphone in my own opinion is just the direct opposite. You have the right to disagree!

Like I said earlier, neither one is categorically better
than the other. Each excels at certain functions and has it shortcomings when it comes to others.

NO TO IPHONE

NO TO IPHONE

Here are some factors I feel anyone who wants to decide between buying a Blackberry and iPhone in Nigeria should consider:

REMOVABLE BATTERY FEATURE:
In a country like Nigeria with epileptic power supply, I happen to appreciate being able to carry a spare battery. They are small and convenient to carry around. You can’t pull your iphone battery. I have a girlfriend that is always looking for power to charge her iPhone. Although she has a Blackberry, she just loves taking pictures with the iphone. I couldn’t stop laughing one day when she had to sweet-talk her way at a filling station to charge her iphone. I use my Blackberry camera because it’s faster.

GREAT SUPPORT BY GSM NETWORKS
You can’t underestimate the great support the Blackberry is enjoying from Nigerian Telecommunication Service Providers. Their BIS Blackberry plans are the ones I found most worthy of mentioning now. I get unlimited data download when I pay N3,000 for MTN BIS for a month. Unlimited downloads for N3,000/month is amazing, I don’t care what you think. Of course it is amazing when compared to that of iphone. You get 1GB data transfer for a month at N1,400 on Airtel. That I think is the best deal you can get on an iphone in Nigeria.

Now compare the two. If I download 10GB of data in a month, I still pay N3,000. Don’t say 10GB download is an exaggeration, because I download that much. If you want to be like me on an iphone, you must pay N1,400 x 10 = N14,000. Buy a London used Curve 2 with that.

BLACKBERRY BATTERY LASTS LONGER
I had to travel to a Tertiary Institution in Igbo-ora in Oyo State, Nigeria some weeks back. I had both my iphone and Blackberry batteries fully charged. I discovered how my iphone went off when my Blackberry battery was still at 30%. I never noticed this because whenever I’m at home or work, I charge them before they even drop past the 50% mark. Note that I never for one switched off the data service.

People generally believe that Blackberry batteries don’t last. I laugh in greek. Try the iphone and see the difference. I don’t mean using the iphone just for phone calls. Run as many apps as I do and you will shake your head in regret.

Apple’s latest operating system also introduced some changes that reports indicate are killing the phone’s battery. I didn’t make this up on my own, find out!

BLACKBERRY EMAIL SYSTEM IS FAR BETTER
You must think this guy is crazy at this point if you are an iphone freak. Read on to see what I mean.
I pointed out earlier that Blackberry was designed with business in mind initially.
Setting up an email account on the iPhone is a thorn in the flesh, and sometimes it doesn’t even work. You need to go through settings folders, make sure the authentication servers are right and many more of this. It’s also filled with a bunch of needless animations.
If you are just a business person who only cares to get their e-mails on their phones and not a gadget freak, you should go for a Blackberry.

Apple’s notifications and email were not designed with speed and efficiency in mind.

The BlackBerry is an ideal example of function before form when it comes to the issues of notifications and email. It works because it has to and it is the smoothest communications experience you will ever experience on any smartphone. At least for now.

TYPING IS FASTER ON BLACKBERRY
Contrary to what some people think, it’s faster to type on a Blackberry smartphone that Apple’s iphone. For anyone who has to do serious typing, it’s a no-contest. You just cannot write quickly on an iPhone. Blackberry is way faster. For someone like me who sometime has to squeeze in going to the bank, eat lunch, catch up with some friends and sometimes make blog posts during my short break time. Blackberry is the real deal.
If you are in any doubt, set up a contest between someone that has been using a Blackberry phone for around six months and someone that has been with an iPhone for that long; and see who wins. I hope you can take time to do that to clear your doubts.

NO MEMORY EXPANSION ON IPHONE
Many iphone users would surely say why do I need to expand 32GB memory on a phone. 16GB and 32GB versions are decent, but what you buy is what you get. Having the option to swap out microSDHC cards of different sizes provides unlimited storage far far better. I sometimes insert an extra Media Card and transfer information for backup. Swap cards between my Digital Camera and Blackberry; and stuffs like that.

People say that many people are using Blackberry because their friends are using it and that’s stupid. I laugh whenever I hear that. “I bought a Blackberry because my friends are using it is a very good justification”. I use MTN because 90% of my friends and family members use it. It reduces my call rates significantly.
I can easily leave a message on BBM for someone when they are not in an area with network coverage instead of picking up your phone every time to dial their number to see when they are available. They just get your message when they are back online at no additional cost.

To conclude with what I started with, neither one is categorically better than the other. Each excels at certain functions and have it shortcomings when it comes to others.

Now you know what you are going to do for me? Hit the Facebook share button, Twitter button and Google +1 to spread the message to your iPhone toting friends that their phone is not better. If you hate Blackberry too, you can’t still share it for people to see. *winks*

  1. Nice work Ahmed, I ve loved blackberry for years now and ve never thought of an i-phone at all!

  2. Thank you Ahmed for discussing dis topic has i never knew blackberry serves much purpose than an i-phone.

  3. SIR, I AM CURRENTLY USING TECNO TV60, A JAVA PHONE, BUT WANT TO DROP IT FOR FASTER AND BETTER PHONES. I THINK OF GETTING TECNO T8 AND PLIRIS BLAZE (ANDROID OS) FOR A BUSINESS LIKE THAT OF YOURS. IS GETTING AN ANDROID BETTER THAN AN IPHONE. WHAT ARE YOU REASONS?
    THANKS.

    • I’m into a couple of businesses. Which one are you really talking about. Buying a smartphone depends on what you want to use it for and some other factors. Let me know what you intend to use it for!

  4. Onimole Oludolamu says:

ur review is reallly crappy and bias. no sanw human would say the blackberry battery is better. i have used both phones and to be candid with you, ditching my iphone to get a curve was the worst mistake i ever made.
please hw many sensible games can u play on ur bb? yes we alll agree email encryption on d bb is good, but who told you that on the iphone isnt just as secure as that on the bb??
as for the data plan comparisons, u r right about tht, but if more people encourage the use of othe fones asides dat cheap rubbish called a blackberry, networks would drop their prices, remember they started off on the bb with 5k or more as subscription and competition drove it down
please research well before posting stuff like this again..thanks

    N.B I still use a blackberry

    • In your reply, you said I was wrong once and said I was right 2 to 3 times. I’m okay with that.
Plus I think many pple (I didn’t say all) would tell you “who cares about games”. Which of the curve models are you using? I also cannot see that part where I mentioned about email security being better in Blackberry than iPhone.

Note: I use the 2 phones too. That’s my own opinion based on my unbiased comparison and that’s your own opinion too.

Thanks for sharing it with us. Regards

  5. Good morning, please can u make a comparism between htc android and blackberry like you. did above for iphone. i also learnt that blackberry aquired android… what are the impplications?

    • I’m really not aware of that development (Blackberry acquiring Android) as for the comparism. I won’t like to make any comparism until I have used an Android based HTC phone for a reasonable period of time.

  6. Temidola says:

Well, like you rightly mentioned. “iPhone”. You didn’t date go near Android phones because they are way off the league of both.

I have lost count on the number of BB and iPhone fans I have migrated to Android and are thanking me for it.

Bb to me, like you mentioned. The only fun thing is the unlimited data by Mtn, nothing else. If it’s the business suite and handling of corporate or business data, Android excels.

Android phones do have replaceable batteries, better screen estate, easier handling, fastest typing on mobile, thanks to Swype. Better camera, dedicated GPU for gaming, open source system, better app market. It becomes your companion in no time.

I believe a smart device should do more than handle email and business, but excel in almost all and Android stands out.

Btw, I have used all and presently glued to only Android ICS.

    Nice work

    • Thank you for your comment but are you aware of the war Android is fighting over patents concerning the original source of Android? This might stop Android OS being Open Source and increase the cost of Android phones significantly because phone manufacturers would then have to pay to use Android on their phones.
