How To Register For The MTN Football Scholar Program [Play Football & School]

I have a lot of readers who are MTN Subscribers. That’s the reason I’m sharing this post. Even if it’s not useful to you, you should surely have some that you know who has this dream.

This is the Original MTN’s statement about the program:

The MTN Football Scholar is a youth soccer camp that focuses equally on football and academics. It provides a platform for Nigeria’s best student athletes/soccer players that are academically sound – to earn scholarships to American universities.

It is a scholarship program that connects MTN with the positive dreams and aspirations of Nigerian youths for international exposure in Soccer and education.

The program involves SAT exam preparations and training under top Nigerian national team personnel and coaches from top American Soccer academies

REQUIREMENTS

It is open to students within the age bracket of 16 and 20years. Interested contestants would be required to send sms to 4000 at N50, stating their name, age and location. Interested contestants must also have fulfilled the requirements below;

Must have scored at least a C6 in WASSCE including Mathematics and English

Contestants must come to the audition venues with the following documents;

•         Registration forms – click here to download registration form
•         ID card, international passport or drivers license for identification
•         1 passport photograph
•         Port Harcourt
•         Ilorin
•         Akure
•         Lagos
•         Enugu
•         Abuja
•         Benin

All candidates must bring their birth certificates, transcripts/term reports from JSS3 through SS3 (or up to current grade level), and proof of WASSCE results (if applicable) to the audition venues.

MECHANICS OF THE PROGRAM

The programme would kick-off with auditions in 8 key cities with a knock out series which would set-up quarter final clashes. Participants who get to this stage of the competition do a mock exam and successful candidates proceed to the Academy for 3 weeks where students get intensive football and academic training for a period of one month.

The month long training prepares students for the SAT and TOEFL examinations. Those who succeed in crossing this stage would play a final football competition under the watchful eyes of international soccer scouts to select top winners. Runners-up will have the opportunity of a week’s exposure to other international soccer academies-again to create platforms for scouts to fish out these raw and great talents.

Preliminary Tryouts

Will take place in the following cities:

May 2012

Auditions in 7 key cities across the country

June 2nd -13th 2012

Selected student-athletes attend Academy One where they receive SAT preparation and soccer instruction from elite Nigerian and American coaches

June 2012

Quarter finals; successful candidates from the auditions will play against students from other football academies in the presence of American University coaches. Qualified candidates will receive training from the visiting coaches.

August 2012

Successful candidates will proceed to the 2nd academy. They will receive further SAT preparation and soccer instructions.
